Pets are naturally curious creatures and may investigate the dancing flame of a lit candle. Unfortunately, this curiosity can lead to accidental burns, singed fur, or worse. To prevent accidents, never leave candles unattended or within your pet’s reach. Many candles smell so good your pet may want to eat them. Don’t panic if your buddy eats a little bit of a plain vegetable-based candle, but if it has essential oils or is made from petroleum, you should probably call your vet. If Fido has swallowed the wick and wick holder (often a metal disk), it could cause an obstruction; you must contact your vet.
